The TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) is the UV-VIS-NIR-SWIR spectrometer on the Copernicus Sentinel 5 Precursor platform. The Sentinel 5 Precursor platform is planned for a launch in the second half of 2017, for a 7 year mission. The data products that will be produced by TROPOMI include column estimates of ozone, nitrogen dioxide, methane, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and formaldehyde, ozone profiles, and information on clouds and aerosols.
TROPOMI has been developed by The Netherlands in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA).
KNMI is the Principal Investor institute for TROPOMI and SRON the co-Principal Investor institute. The Level 2 products are developed by a European consortium of scientific institutes (KNMI, SRON, DLR, BIRA, IUP Bremen, RAL, MPI-C and FMI).
The TROPOMI activities at KNMI are funded by the Netherland Space Office (NSO) and ESA.
