About me

Hans completed his studies in Experimental Physics at the University of Utrecht in 1982. He joined KNMI in 1987, as R&D engineer. In his early years at KNMI he participated in the development of an infrared hygrometer, a rain gauge, and automated calibration procedures for meteorological sensors. Later on the focus shifted to remote sensing systems, working on stochastical clutter detection and adding several technical innovations to KNMI's weather radars. Moreover he became KNMI's expert on lightning detection systems. He was involved as projectleader in a major upgrade of the dutch weather radars and in a major upgrade of the KNMI lightning detection network. Specialties: - Testing of Algorithms for use in Weather Radar - Tender Procedures for the European Market; - Integration of meteorological sensors in KNMI's observational network
