This technical report describes the two dimensional variational ambiguity removal (2DVAR) method and its implementation in the genscat library. The relevant equations are derived in detail and their implementation aspects are discussed. The software is tested for the so-called Single Observation Test, a simple but non-trivial case for which the problem can be solved analytically.
