Validation of 2DVAR on SeaWinds data

This report describes the validation of the 2DVAR results and the effect of its parameter settings. This is done using statistical analyses and case studies.

The following statistical analyses have been performed:

 Intercomparison of scatterometer wind fields and model predictions;

 Edge analysis;

 Statistical consistency of 2DVAR

One important validation method, comparison with buoy measurements, is not included in this report.

Detailed information on 2DVAR and the optimal settings of its parameters is derived from case studies.
