Meet R&DSA at NAC 2019!

05 March 2019

This year the seismology and acoustics department of KNMI will be well represented during the 2019 Nederlands Aardwetenschappelijk Congres (NAC).

The NAC is held between the 14th and 15th of March at Van der Valk Hotel in Utrecht. You can meet us during the following oral presentations and posters:

Oral Presentations:

  • Day 1 at 16:00) Characterising the seismic signal of individual wind turbines in the Borgsweer area. (Vleut et al.)
  • Day 1 at 16:15) A Seismo‐Acoustic Analysis of the 2017 North Korean Nuclear Test. (Assink et al.)
  • Day 2 at 13:15) Mapping seismicity in Groningen. (Spetzler et al.)

Illustration showing the coupling between seismicity in the solid earth and infrasound in the atmosphere. Research related to this topic will be presented during the conference.

Poster Presentations:

  • Crustal velocities in Groningen from resonating waves. (Ruigrok et al.)
  • Monitoring of volcanoes The Quill and Mt. Scenery in the Caribbean Netherlands by cross correlating seismic ambient noise. (Sleeman & de Zeeuw-van Dalfsen)
  • Project PIM: a low-cost mobile seismic-acoustic sensor for geophysical deployments. (Den Ouden et al.)
  • Seismo-acoustic coupled signals from earthquakes in central Italy: epicentral and secondary sources of infrasound. (Shani-Kadmiel et al.)
  • Shaken, not stirred: Unveiling seismic wave properties by using ambient noise. (Van Ginkel et al.)
  • The role of KNMI in the European seismic waveform infrastructure — enabling international collaborations through ORFEUS and EPOS. (Koymans et al.)
  • Systematic detection and correction of instrumental time shifts using crosscorrelations of ambient seismic noise. (Weemstra et al.)

We hope to meet you at the NAC and look forward to presenting our research and discussing these topics and more with you. For more information visit the official NAC2019 page.
