Geert Lenderink studied applied mathematics at Delft University of Technology, and has a PhD on the density driven (thermohaline|) ocean circulation, obtained at Utrecht University in 1997. Since then he worked on modeling atmospheric turbulence and clouds. He developed a turbulence closure that is applied operationally in the numerical weather prediction models HIRLAM and Harmonie, and in the regional climate model RACMO2. Since 2004 he is involved in regional climate modeling and te development of climate scenarios. He developed the methodological framework of the climate scenarios that KNMI issued in 2006 and 2014. Scientifically, he is mainly interested in the response of convective precipitation to global warming. He wrote a number of influential papers on the scaling of hourly precipitation and showed that intensities could increase beyond the commonly expected Clausius-Clapeyron relation, even up to 14 % per degree. He is/has been involved in many national and European projects about climate change and climate change adaptation.
