Geodata for upgrading smallholders’ farming systems in Indonesia
The G4INDO project assists the Government of Indonesia in providing insurance to farmers. G4INDO provides geodata with KNMI being involved in seasonal forecasting, which is important because it is linked to a variety of practical applications. The ECMWF seasonal forecast system that is used exhibits biases, that can be corrected. To improve forecast skill, bias correction and more advanced statistical methods are applied. This improved seasonal forecast information is used as input to hydrological and crop models. It is expected that a higher skill of seasonal forecast information will lead to more successful agricultural activities and warnings for possible floods and droughts.
