This report describes the digitization, the quality control, metadata and analysis of the hourly meteorological observations made at the Amsterdam City Water Office (ACWO) in the period 1784-1963. These observations are unique in the sense that they constitute the earliest known hourly long-term
meteorological time series in the World. From 1784 onwards, air temperature, wind direction and wind force were observed hourly and from 1824 onwards hourly air pressures were added. In addition, there are descriptive observations of local weather. The time series are important for climate research and are now, together with the metadata and images of the original logbooks, freely available on the Internet.
